Russian FM holds talks with Chinese counterpart before SCO summit

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held discussions with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Sunday in Beijing, ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers Council meeting scheduled for next week.

The Russian Foreign Ministry shared news of the meeting on Telegram along with a photo of the two ministers but did not reveal details about their conversation.

This announcement followed confirmation of Lavrov’s arrival in China, where he is set to represent Russia at the SCO Foreign Ministers Council session on Tuesday.

Lavrov’s trip to China comes after a three-day visit to North Korea’s Wonsan, where he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that the SCO Foreign Ministers Council meeting will be held in Tianjin on July 15.
