Officials from Laos, Cambodia to fight transnational crime

(MENAFN) Officials from Laos and Cambodia have convened for the inaugural meeting of their respective prosecutors' offices to enhance collaboration in combating transnational crime, with drug trafficking topping the agenda.

Held in Vientiane on Tuesday, the session brought together senior judicial officials from both countries, as reported by local sources on Wednesday. The meeting is seen as a key step in reinforcing judicial ties and joint efforts to tackle serious cross-border criminal activity.

Xaysana Khotphouthone, President of Laos’ Supreme People's Prosecutor Office, described the gathering as a landmark moment in deepening bilateral legal cooperation. He emphasized that the event reflects the growing strategic alignment between Laos and Cambodia, particularly in the area of criminal prosecution.

He also warned that the drug problem poses a widespread threat to Lao society, affecting vulnerable groups including students and rural populations. According to Xaysana, failure to address the issue could fuel further criminal activity and destabilize the country.
