South Korea witnesses job growth due to senior employment

(MENAFN) South Korea recorded its sixth straight month of employment growth in June, largely fueled by a rise in jobs for the elderly, according to new data released on Wednesday.

Statistics Korea reported that the number of employed individuals aged 15 and older reached approximately 29.09 million last month, marking an increase of 183,000—or 0.6%—compared to the same period last year.

The bulk of this growth came from older age groups. Employment among those aged 60 and above surged by 348,000 year-on-year, while jobs for individuals in their 30s rose by 116,000.

In contrast, employment figures dropped in other demographics. The number of jobs held by people aged 15 to 29 fell by 173,000, while those in their 40s and 50s experienced declines of 55,000 and 53,000 respectively.
