Cambodia Cracks Down on Online Scams, Arrests 2,767
Pheaktra, who also serves on the Ad-Hoc Committee to Combat Online Scams, revealed that law enforcement agencies have conducted raids at 52 sites spanning 15 of the nation’s 25 cities and provinces.
"After the Royal Government issued a strict order to crack down on online scams, as of July 19, 2025, the authorities in cities and provinces had detained a total of 2,767 suspects," he stated in a Telegram message to the press.
The minister added that several alleged ringleaders have already been handed over to the judiciary for legal proceedings, while most of the apprehended individuals are slated for deportation to their countries of origin.
This sweeping, unprecedented campaign against cyber fraud networks was launched on July 14, with the primary goal of preserving national security, public order, and community safety.
Prime Minister Hun Manet has directed the armed forces to be on standby to support these crackdowns and issued a stern warning that any officials obstructing the operations will face dismissal.
Additionally, the Ministry of Justice confirmed the suspension of a deputy prosecutor from the Pursat Provincial Court. The action follows an investigation into his release of several suspects involved in online scams.
