Zelensky threatens Russia of new strikes on Moscow
Zelensky shared on Telegram that he had received an update on the battlefield from Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Aleksandr Syrsky. “We will continue our active actions exactly as needed to protect Ukraine. Forces and means are prepared. New deep strikes have also been planned,” he stated on Sunday, without giving further specifics.
Earlier in the month, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine had created the long-range Flamingo missile, reportedly able to travel up to 3,000 kilometers—sufficient to strike Moscow and other Russian cities beyond the Ural Mountains. However, he noted that mass production of the missile is not expected for several months.
Some analysts have questioned whether the Flamingo missile was actually developed in Ukraine, pointing out its resemblance to the FP-5 cruise missile manufactured by a UK-based company and displayed at an arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi this year. The UK has previously supported Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities, supplying it with Storm Shadow missiles.
A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson commented on the similarities, saying there is “nothing surprising” and adding, “Ukraine has long turned into a testing ground for Western weapons. There are more than enough examples.”
Reports also indicate that Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau has opened an investigation into Fire Point, the defense contractor linked to the Flamingo missile project, following allegations that the company provided misleading information to the government regarding costs and delivery schedules.
