Russia-Ukraine-U.S. Talks Yield Prisoner Swap Deal

(MENAFN) Negotiators from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States have reached an agreement to exchange 314 detainees—marking the initial prisoner transfer between the warring nations in five months, according to U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff, who announced the development Thursday.

Witkoff disclosed the breakthrough via social media platform X, characterizing the peace negotiations as "detailed and productive," while stressing that "significant work" lies ahead.

The envoy indicated that diplomatic conversations would proceed, with further advancements expected within the next several weeks.

The U.S.-mediated negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv entered their second round Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, spanning two days of intensive dialogue. This followed preliminary discussions held in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 24, which ended without producing any binding commitments or a unified declaration.
