UN Warns of Growing Humanitarian Crisis in Middle East, Offers Support
UN humanitarian teams said they are prepared to assist national authorities in responding to the unfolding situation.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted significant damage to health infrastructure in both Iran and Lebanon. According to reports, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) noted widespread destruction of hospitals and emergency response assets, with more than 230 health facilities and over 30 medical vehicles either damaged or destroyed. Health personnel have also been killed or injured, though exact figures have not been released.
The IRCS reported that over 54,000 civilian units—including homes, schools, and commercial buildings—have sustained damage. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization documented 28 attacks on healthcare facilities in Lebanon over a two-week period, resulting in 30 deaths and 35 injuries.
Humanitarian organizations, including the World Food Programme, the UN Refugee Agency, and the UN Children’s Fund, have provided more than 800,000 hot meals along with shelter supplies such as mattresses, blankets, and sleeping mats to affected populations, according to reports.
